‘Every Breath You Take’ by The Police

Off of their seminal 1983 album, Synchronicity, this slow-tempo song was nothing short of massive during the year of its release, conquering the charts, MTV, and radio alike. It would go on to be featured in countless other types of media – TV shows, movies, and the like – most notably the modern Netflix hit series Stranger Things. Though The Police would disband in the following years, the success of the song would certainly send them off on a high note.

The Cell Phone (Sort Of)

The year 1983 proved to break new ground in what is now ubiquitous: the introduction of the mobile phone. Motorola is credited with unveiling the first commercially-available phone called the DynaTAC. Despite the innovation taking place, this is not to say that mobile phones in 1983 were particularly accessible for everybody, in fact, they were technically limited, unreliable, and extremely expensive for the average consumer. In the following years, cell phones would grow to become commonplace, and a piece of technology used throughout the world.

Return of the Jedi

The third and final installment of the original Star Wars trilogy, Return of the Jedi concluded (at least at the time) a saga that had taken the pop culture world by storm in the previous years. The film brought iconic characters like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, and Lando Calrissian to the table for a film that has since been beloved by Star Wars fans across the galaxy.
